It is possible, but it is very hard and will require a lot of resources. We should really think if it will pay off.

As you see there are plenty of votes for this one, so we're seriously thinking about implementing this!

Chris is right: inline images are in a separate idea, at first they will be implemented only as previewable attachments.
The good news is that we have already started and this feature is the next in line for the next major release.

Bo, huge thanks for this tip! Very, very useful. I'll add it for our "Tips& Tricks" forum thread if you don't mind.

I understand very well that you want to minimize the effort, and I really appreciate that!
But the feature must be somehow complete, there must be something to write in user's guide about.
This way it's just an extra piece of data attached to a note, and users will wonder why the start date doesn't really "do" anything.
I think it might still be much better to bite the bullet and implement full alarms and scheduling system with start date, due date, and recurrency. This will make a nice new chapter in the Help.
