Move is slow on USB Stick

Alex Jenter 14 years ago updated 12 years ago 0
I have a CN database with around 200 records
I normally hold it on a USB Stick
When I move records (ALT and up/down arrow) it is jerky and slow.
When I copy the database to a hard disc and do the same operation is it smooth and quick.
Is that what you would expect?
I’m running 1.1 Preview 1 in Win XP and Win 7

Search Across Notebooks

Chris Moore 9 years ago updated by Alex Jenter 7 years ago 5
I am in the process of breaking up my small number of notebooks into a larger set of notebooks, for performance reasons. The problem I am starting to discover now is a difficulty in finding notes. I know a note exists - but I am now not sue in which of my notebooks it is. What would be great is to have an option in CN to search across all notebooks (all the ones listed in the File menu, so only the open ones).

At the moment, in this case, I simple have to open each notebook one at a time, and do a search on each one until I find the note I want. It's do-able, but not ideal.

Shortcut to cycle through open editor windows

Thomas Lohrum 12 years ago updated by Alex Jenter 7 years ago 5
I suggest to add "ctrl+shift+tab" (use shift-combinations for tasks that affect all cn windows) to rotate between all open cintanotes editor-windows. This would really be an easy way to select a desired cn window. Using windows Alt+Tab is just a pain, because it lists all windows. Having the editor-windows filtered using an own shortcut should be a tremendous help, for it can be a tedious task to select a specific window right now. I think the search window itself should not be included for it can be activated any time using the global shortcut. Thus the feature should select editor-windows only. However there is one minor issue with this: First the user must activate a cn window to allow switching for ctrl+shift+tab can not be a global hotkey. Thus i suggest to allow start rotating from the main search window. Now as a user i first open cn using the global shortcut and can then easily rotate between the editor windows.

Show thumbnails for attached images

ChrisCN 9 years ago updated by Alex Jenter 5 years ago 3

After using the new 'attachment feature' I immediately had the wish to show thumbnails for the images attached. :-)

Of course this would be nice for even more file types (eg. PDF and so on) - but I don't know how difficult this would be and I think images are the most useful case.

Maybe WIC would be helpful !?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Imaging_Component

WIC enables application developers to perform image processing operations on any image format through a single set of common APIs, without requiring prior knowledge of specific image formats.

When do you plan to release commercial version?

Andrei 13 years ago updated by Alex Jenter 12 years ago 2
I wonder do you have any estimates about when commercial version will be released?
P.S.

Answer
Alex Jenter 13 years ago
Thanks for your willingness to support the development, I appreciate that a lot!

The current plan is to release the first commercial version in the end of January.
But since I can't (yet;) work on CintaNotes full time, this date might slip, as it has already happened before.

Features that will be included in the first commercial version:
- Basic text formatting support
- Hierarchic tags

Note editor: option to activate links with Ctrl-Click

Thomas Lohrum 12 years ago updated by Alex Jenter 12 years ago 0
As of now we have two options to open a link: (a) simple click or (b) double click. Accidentally i sometimes try opening a link using a single click while at the same time holding the ctrl-key. This combination is often used in other applications. Actually i would like to be able to open links using either a double click or a single click/ctrl-key combination. I don't need (a) and i don't need this as an option. I would like to have both the same time.

An option to disable rich text

john2020 4 years ago updated by Alex Jenter 4 years ago 1

I don't like rich text and don't use it anywhere, even in documents. Is there an option to disable it? For example, when I write numbered lists, the numbers are automatically "enriched". It breaks all my workflow because I need Asciidoctor/Markdown syntax for my lists. Also, it is very distracting.

Update:

As I discovered, this feature was _removed_ in 2.7.1 (CintaNotes 2.7: Options → Editor → Text formatting). I think it was a bad idea. A lot of technical-skilled people don't like Microsoft-Word-like ways to deal with text. Instead, lightweight markup languages like LaTeX, Asciidoctor, and Markdown are their best friends. I don't think we really _need_ Markdown in CintaNotes (although it would be great) - it could be too hard to add the parser/renderer and redesign the UI. But at least, please, give us back the option to use _simple plain text_, that is, to use Markdown or Asciidoctor _syntaxes_ (without the appropriate parsing and rendering).

Secondary sort order support

Alex Jenter 6 years ago updated by anonymous 6 years ago 6

Add ability to specify secondary sort order.

For example now if notes are sorted by title, then notes having same title are sorted by creation date. Would be great to be able to sort them by text, for example.

#hashtag recognition and autotagging

klokov_e 8 years ago updated by Hoakim Artramonov 7 years ago 5

I suggest adding a hashtag recognition autotagging rule. Very often I happen to clip something that has a #hashtag in it, like #books or something like that, sometimes several hashtags like #geography #lakes # holidays. It is tedious to create an autotagging rule each time, so CintaNotes could recognize a hashtag and autotag it. This feature could be custom. Thank you. PS. For reference, this feature was implemented in Rednotebook Portable on portableapps.com.

Virtual tags (Predefined tag expressions)

Alex Jenter 12 years ago updated by Christof Deininger 9 years ago 2
Ability to define virtual tags like
A = (B + S + R) * ( G - H )

All notes having tag G, not having tag H, and having at least one of tags B, S, and R => will implicitly have virtual tag A.

Different levels of tag relevance to a certain note

Alex Jenter 13 years ago updated by Christof Deininger 9 years ago 3
I think it'd be nice if there is an option to choose to disable automatic alphabetical ordering on the note preview and in the edit window so that the tags can be shown in typed order (in other words, the same as how the tags are shown in the Tags textbox on the edit window before saving and closing the window). This wouldn't need to be applied to the tag sidebar because there'd be no point in that.

Shortcut to open a second instance of the current notebook

The advantage of multiple main windows would be, that one could see and work with more than one note list at the same time.
In one main window I could have a look at my tasks on a second main window I could see the list of subject specific informations and so on.
